Motion Analysis and Injury Prevention Laboratory

Laboratory Introduction:

Motion analysis and Injury Prevention Lab

Principal: Cheng-Feng Lin

Introduction

The main research of this laboratory is to analyze human movement, combine the data collection from force plate, pressure plate and EMG. The research is to study the balance control, and biomechanics of dancers and athletes. We also undergo studies of exercise training program, exercise biomechanics, lower extremity biomechanics, and insole.

  The undergoing researches including:

1.      The relationship among the balance, electromyography and injury in the ballet dancers.

2.      The effect of therapeutic exercises for athletes with patellofemoral joint pain syndromes.

3.      The stability of ankle joint and dynamic postural control in the athletes with ankle instability.

4.      Integrated plyometric exercise with proprioception training program on the prevention of ankle and foot injuries in ballet dancers.

5.      The effect of insole to the OA patients.

Instruments:

1.      Bertec force plate

Bertec's product line of force plates have been specifically designed for gait, balance, and sports analyses.  Designs to suit both static and dynamic applications have been achieved through the use of strain gage technology, innovative mechanical and electronics designs, and quality manufacturing.

2.      RS footscan 2nd generation system

The footscan® gait systems are developed to perform state-of-the-art pressure measurements, by using the footscan® plates or insoles. Barefoot and shod measurements in a static and dynamic way can be performed with the footscan® plates, shod and dynamic measurements can be performed with the footscan® insoles. Besides the static and dynamic pressures (N/sqcm) during the unroll of the foot, the footscan® gait system is giving important information: quantification of the motion of the foot, temporal and spatial paramters of the unroll and of gait ... which are all additional parameters to interpret the total gait pattern of a human being or animal.

3.      Micro FET3

The innovative microFET 3 MT & ROM is the first dual-function medical device on the market to accurately and scientifically measure Muscle Testing (MT) and Range-of-Motion (ROM).
