To organize an integrated research team focused on clinical movement science on the solid foundation of research results of individual professors and to encourage teachers to publish their research papers in SCI journals; based on diversified point of view to cooperate with researchers with same interest and investigate issues with far-reaching impacts; to pay attention to local physical therapy issues and play a key role in the research of physical therapy.

In terms of physical therapy of the musculoskeletal system, efforts will be made to integrate various disciplines of movement science and bio-dynamics and conduct in-depth researches targeted at pathogenic mechanisms to identify the relation between pains and movement disorders and to promote evolvement and technical innovations of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.  With the improvement in differential diagnostic techniques and design capabilities of optimized therapy plans, the Department aims to be a consulting and prevention center against sports injuries, bone diseases, degenerative arthritis and other pains related to orthopaedic physical therapy.

In the field of neurological physical therapies, theories of neuroscience and cognitive psychology combined with motion analysis and image signal processing technology are to be employed in the interdisciplinary study and assessment of movement disorders and disability resulted from old age or diseases of nervous system, aiming for concrete strategies for the improvement of motor planning so as to present research results of the Department in motor control and motor neurophysiology to the world.

Integrated with other fields of child development, movement science, pediatric neurology and special education, the Department aims to play an important role in the research of normal and abnormal motor development on Pediatric Physical Therapy covering theories and clinical application of early intervention to high risk groups of children with developmental delay and assistive technology.

Based on exercise physiology, respiratory physiological and cardiovascular physiology and combined with animal models of human diseases and human subject trial, the research of physical therapy in respiratory and cardiovascular systems will investigate motor activity responses and curative effects of physical therapy as well as physiological mechanism targeted at groups with risk factors of cardiovascular or respiratory diseases and patients of cardiovascular or respiratory diseases.
